Here is a sneak peek of the Park Avenue Community Center! We have had the most fabulous construction company working with us, Pugsley Construction. Who has not just been demo’ing the building for FREE, yes FREE! They have also been keeping out all of the old customers.

So far we have had a lot of community involvement. From Project Coordination, to dumpsters, we have had people come from everywhere to help us turn a former strip club into a Community Center and they are just as passionate as we are!

I love this part of the job!

Well great news for all of us at inCOMMON Community Development! We have recently acquired the former Sheri’s Show Club building that sits on a very main street here in Omaha, Nebraska. 29th and Leavenworth to be exact (and we are leasing it for free from Kohll’s Pharmacy!) . This has been a place that I believe has kept our neighborhood (I live a few blocks away) from turning the corner and becoming a very healthy and vibrant community. I am pleased to say that I will be the Director of the Park Avenue Community Center. This will be the first time I have ever been a “Director” of anything, so I am pretty stoked, a little nervous and ready to go (I think)!

As you might imagine, the former show club is in need of a lot, I can’t stress that “a lot” enough, but in need of a lot of work. I have never been in building so dark unless it was my own house and all the lights are out. All of the walls are covered with at least one mirror, and I kid you not, the building is painted in nothing but black paint. DARK. DARk. DArk. Dark. dark. I don’t like spending much time there, because it just feels dark and heavy when I leave (not to mention it smells like a million cigarettes were just smoked).

So not too shabby eh! First Director position is at an old Strip Club.

Here are some pictures of my new Trek Erwin! It is a cyclo-cross bike that can run all kinds of different ways, road/mtn tires, single speed/fixed/geared. Really versatile.

It weighs just under 24 lbs, not too bad for steel! Super comfortable. Huge upgrade from the last bike…huge. I am really looking forward to getting around on two wheels rather than 4 again. Now, as Lisa mentioned I need to get a rack for the back to stroll Liz and I around!

So I am frickin’ stoked to be on the receiving end of a new bike! I sale bikes at a Trek store here in Omaha…it’s pretty cool! I have yet to have a “real” new bike since I was a teenager. When my Mom and Dad brought me to Treads in Aurora, CO to pick out a DiamondBack Mountain Bike. I rode that thing sooo many miles and then it was stolen at the library.

So I can’t explain to you all how nice it is going to be to get this bike into the shop and put together tomorrow!

Do you like Cilantro?

I do, but never buy it because it goes bad sitting out on my counter or in the fridge sealed up.

Rick Bayless to offer some help here….

If you keep the cilantro in a plastic bag (unsealed) with a moist paper towel you will have fresh cilantro for at least a week!
